Use this thread to converse on issues raised by McLaren in the book, or to supplement the in-class discussion. Topics could include:
Post-modernity / Post-colonialism
What is the essential message of Jesus?
McLaren's construction of the "suicide machine"
How is our context similar or dissimilar to the emperial narrative at work in Jesus' day?
Be Generous!

A member of the class recently asked me this: Are we saying that the first 2000 years of Christianity got it all wrong, and we are just now arriving at the truth?
Good Question. I would say no. Perhaps, every renewal that has occured is just what the Holy Spirit prescribed for that time and that place.
What do you think?

JESUS WAS NOT A THREAT TO THE ROMAN EMPIRE
The Roman Empire or at least Pilate, the representative of the Roman Empire found no fault with Jesus.

Nice work Doug, you have given careful thought to this. I'm not sure if it is fair to say "McLaren is lost", or to infer that he is not as generous as other world benefactors. What if all of us were judged against their standard?
