In your experience or in your philosophy of ministry, do small groups operate best when they are closed/exclusive or when they are open/inclusive? Why do you think so?

Closed groups serve a purpose, but I think open groups function best over all. It is difficult for groups to be truly open becuase it is easier to welcome people when they are like you or you know them, which naturally lends its self to exclusion. It take directed effort to step outside of that tendency.
